Theme 7: Salinity systems in regolith and groundwater
This theme addressed salt hazard maps, salt stores and conduits,
using new models of landscape evolution and sediment deposition
in three dimensional frameworks. It advanced the interpretation
of maps and images produced from airborne geophysics to enable extrapolation
from detailed studies to regional areas. It also provided data
at a scale suitable for targeted salinity intervention strategies.
The theme involved the definition of aquifer parameters by geophysical
methods and the development of regional groundwater flow models.
These outputs will aid land-use management to avert the impacts
of dryland salinity.
