Theme 6: Geophysical mapping and modelling

New developments in geophysics can achieve breakthroughs in MINEX and NRM applications. Rapid and systematic methods are required to model regolith structure, conductivity structure and the base of transported regolith. This will follow from improved airborne electromagnetic (AEM) and ground EM systems and their integration with borehole geophysics, regolith geology and geochemistry. This will require better petrophysical databases of regolith material such as electrical conductivity, density, magnetic susceptibility and remanence. Modelling can be improved by using distributed arrays of geophysical sensors. Vector measurements in gravity and magnetics will be investigated. Research was conducted to enhance the visualisation and integration of geology, geochemistry and geophysics. This theme is also one of the principle links between MINEX and NRM applications.
