Theme 5: Making geochemistry more effective

This theme can advance the understanding of geochemical anomaly detection and interpretation by defining mechanisms by which metals accumulate. The nature and magnitude of the mechanisms in different regolith-landscape environments - both past and active - will enable criteria to be developed that can evaluate and reject subtle metal anomalies. In exploration geochemistry we need to discriminate the null result (not fully tested) from the negative result (nothing there). The supreme challenge of modern mineral exploration is to geochemically sense mineral deposits buried under transported regolith.
